Artist Statement

In my paintings, I weave together stories of
belonging, identity, community and faith. I paint
out of a deep longing for beauty and harmony and out of an awareness that both are often lacking. As a black woman in a predominantly white society, I paint what I long for: to be (black) in peace and community. My art is a way of praise and a spiritual practice. My art celebrates what already is, and at the same time represents what could be. Through my art I build bridges that connect what I perceive with what I long for.
About
Aimée Danielle Kavena Ma-Mbote-Ko Mandjila is a Swiss-Congolese Painter born in 1999 in Switzerland. Starting in her early youth, Aimée spends her time drawing, painting, writing and making music.
During the one year preparatory course in Art and Design, she first begins painting large-scale with oils and discovers how inexhaustible art-making is as a full-time occupation. When she leaves Switzerland for her internship in Guinea she takes her creative urge with her and creates several works, which she later exhibits in Switzerland in her first group show in Langenthal, Switzerland.
Art and especially art creation is the starting point from which she perceives, processes and influences the world. After completing her bachelor's degree in social work, she now works as a social worker and freelance artist. She is showing her work in different Swiss cities like Bern, Biel/Bienne and also in Paris.
